HAD SURGERY YESTERDAY, OCT. 7, 2008 3 Months ago
hey everyone! had my submuscular ulnar nerve transposition with flexor tendon lengthening surgery on my right arm yesterday.

had no problem with anesthesia. my surgeon had to cut through more muscle than anticipated because the nerve was really "tucked in there". the surgery lasted about an hour and fifteen minutes. i am in a splint from wrist to mid-bicept and is set between 45 and 90 degrees. i have full range of motion to my fingers, but am not allowed ANY weight bearing to my arm. must wear sling during the day to keep arm from hanging too low. i apply an ice pack for about 30 minutes at a time. i also occasionally feel a little drainage, which is normal. i was prescribed percocets for pain and have experienced some dizziness, but i am staying rested and relaxed. i go back to get my splint off in two weeks and i'll find out what lies in store for me therapy-wise..

whew!! typing with one hand is a..well..a beeotch!!! lol.. thank you all for the support and if you have any q's, do NOT hesitate to ask, for i am an open book!! well, mostly..

talk at y'all later, gators!!! yeeehiii!

Hi Kerley,

Good to see that you are still among the living

So it went pretty ok I guess? Did you say anything weird to MCDreamy ? You just take your rest and let yourself get spoiled by your kids!

Howdy KerleyQ,

I broke the fever last night, so I will 99% head back into work tonight for mids. Thanks for your kind words. I think one of my guys brought "kid" germs to work. (G)

I did a lot of finger wiggles right from the get go and that seemed to help me. I was told/directed as you - no weights or stress on the hand and arm for "X" amount of time. My physical therapy to start was on the stretching and massage side of the house. I wasn't allowed the strength increase side of the house for about 4 weeks after surgery. It sounds like you are healing normally KerleyQ. The meds they put me on were good as I got very sleepy, and therefore - I rested - which is what we all need as we heal. You're doing great girl friend!!!!
