Well, went to doctor. Was told that it is my radial nerve acting up now! Have been taking anti-inflammatory medicine for the past month, was told to continue that for 3 more weeks to see if it helps any. If no improvement by then, he recommends another surgery to release the nerve. Not what I wanted to hear :(

Subject: 2nd Opinion? - by: sassy

You didn't indicate whether you'd exhausted some of the more conservative treatments, like splinting and injections (the latter which I don't reccomend much). But I will say if there is more than moderate compression (which your's looks like based on the NCS/EMG), your 2nd opinion visit could be more direted at surgical OPTIONS (subq, subm, intram), and IMPORTANT, have a conversation about post-surgical rehab. Unfortunately, the longer you wait, the more likely, based on studies and personal experience, the longer the recovery and perhaps less of a chance of "full" recovery. I had a simple release in both arms, and then, because of practically no relief, I was put the more agreessive track -- release revisions and submuscular transposition in both arms. It's been a slow go, but finally, with revision surgery, therapy and time, I've had some one-sided pain free minutes in one arm nearly two years into this.

Great advice! I'm getting a little scared about it but I guess I need to buck and try to remember to keep a positive attitude! I'm so glad my kids are older so they will be able to help out - at least my daughter will get practice styling hair!! HAHA - Thanks again! :)

Hi,

Many thanks for the answer, much appreciated. I've found that reducing my amount of time on PC has helped though pain remains at a lower level. Interesting to hear that you are needing further surgery - sorry to hear that.

The pain in the back of my hand is exactly in the middle of the back of the hand with a vertical line of pain which feels about two inches long. Again, that has decreased over last few days and not using PC so much but still comes on at night. Speaking to surgeon next week which should help, its just difficult to know what to do when it gets very painful!

Thanks again

Subject: 14 Days Post Op CUTS & CTS - by: davis94

Karen:

Your first 10 days sound very much like mine, but your next several are very different. I had internal stitches on the arm but doctor took hand stitches out in my post-op visit. OUCH!

I was told not to soak the arm for the first 48 hours and to start vitamin E rubs on my hand as soon as steri-strips fell off. The pain was much worse than I'd expected and the steri-strips only seemed to make it worse on the elbow. They told me to use both arm and hand as much as possible immediately after first bandages came off and released me to return to work with no restrictions the next week (20 days post-op).

I've stopped the vitamin E because it burns when I rub it on and the skin on my arm has started peeling really bad. Wondering if I had a reaction to the E.

I've been back at work for a full week and still have a lot of pain at night. Manage to use the computer fairly well most days but can't stand it more than 7-8 hours. Also been okay driving but have a lot of swelling at night and have needed 1/2 of a vicodin a couple of nights because of the pain. I've gotten quite a bit of strength back in the hand but I'm using a squeeze ball several times a day to exercise it.

My fingers are still numb but the neck pain I had all the time has subsided a lot. The whole procedure has been much worse than I'd imagined and not sure I would do it again if given a choice. It's still early though, so I'm going to hope for the best. I don't have another doctor visit until November - I guess they figure I'm cured.

All the best! I'd love to hear how the next phase of your recovery goes ~ I hope it's better than mine has been.
