for detailed info on my C.U.T.S see the thread "the degree" i made about 1 week ago. Anyways...I am now scheduled for a visit to ortho on august 11th for treatment options. I have already had conservative treatment from my doctor and he finally referred me to see the ortho. I called the ortho and asked my they havent sent me a date and time yet and the doctor who is going to care for me says "We didnt see a problem with the timing, cubital tunnel syndrome causes no permanent damage what-so-ever. My had is sinking in..pretty bad and is numb...ive already been diagnosed with CutS. I really dont know if i want this guy operating on me...hes only been at this hospital in ortho for a year now. Cant cuts lead to permanent damage? My doc says that i also am forming "claw hand" so...who votes i change ortho doctors? because it seems to me this guy doesnt know what hes talking about

Hi Jay530,

Cubital Tunnel Syndrome can indeed cause permanent damage. And studies have shown that the longer you wait for surgery and the worse your symptoms get, the less chance you have for a complete recovery. It's good that you tried conservative treatment first, but if your fingers are starting to curl into your hand, it's definitely time for surgery.

You doctor doesn't sound like he knows cubital tunnel syndrome very well. I always recommend that you find a doctor/surgeon with direct experience treating cubital tunnel syndrome. The more the better! With something this important as the use of your hand, it's no time to be a guinea pig for a trainee!

Good luck, and please stop back and let us know what you end up doing.

Holy Cow!!!! Your hand is starting to "claw" and he tells you that Cubital won't or can't cause permanent damage? I can't believe it. Yes CHANGE doctor's!! I had gotten to the claw hand mode, and by the end of the year, I was told if nothing is done, PERMANENT damage, and disabled hand! Like Timm said, this guy is a trainee! Don't walk, but RUN away from this inept *cough* doctor. I hit the 3 month mark since surgery in 2 days, and due to the severity of mine (including the clawing of the hand/fingers), I am still trying to get the numbness out of my pinkie finger - it is coming back, but slowly. My vote - NEW experienced and caring doctor!!! Good luck.
