Think I may have this... 8 Months, 1 Week ago

I have, at times, SEVERE pain in my pinky and ring finger in my domanant (right) hand. The pain is the most severe in the pinky but ifeel it on the inside of my ring finger a well. This pain began to develop about three years ago but in the last year with my job as a custodian it has gotten worse with increased use of my hands with my job. I wake almost nightly with pain or numbness in the two fingers. The left hand is not affected...just the right. Oh yeah I sometimes lose my grip with the right hand and have noticed some weakness. Do you think I may have cubital tunnel? The pain is so intense sometimes that is all i can concentrate on. Thank you. I love the site.

Could be, or ulnar compression in the wrist is another possibility. You probably should make an appointment with a hand specialist surgeon for diagnostic workup so you can begin to get control over your situation. I think that's a good place to start given what you say. In the meantime, you might pick up a stiff wrist splint and wear at night. That relieved my nighttime symptoms in the pinky and ring fingers. Keep us posted, but your mileage may vary.

Awaiting first appointment with surgeon. Using Dictate, the new voice recognition program for Macintosh. Warning: early beta stages even though they are selling as if it\'s fully developed. (I have no relationship with the company.)

Hi Derek,
I'm not a doctor, but it sounds like cubital tunnel syndrome. Do you have any pain in your elbow? It should feel like when you hit your funny bone.
You should really consider seeing a doctor. Sometime nerve damage can become permanent if allowed to go on too long.
Good luck!

It's possible your ulnar nerve is being compressed in your wrist. On the palm, the ulnar nerve passes under a ligament between two small wrist bones, the pisiform and hamate. The tunnel formed by the bones and ligaments is called Guyon's canal. In this case, you will have pain and numbness in the ring and pinky fingers but not the elbow.
This is usually caused by a cyst in the canal, clotting of the ulnar artery from repetitive trauma, or an injury to the wrist bones. In golfers, this can result from hitting the ground instead of the golf ball, or in a baseball player from heavy batting.

I'm right-handed, but have had numbness in my left ring and pinky since January. I had an EMG which the Dr. said was the ulnar nerve, but is originating in my neck.
That makes sense, because I also suffer from a chronic stiff/sore neck.Bone spurs pressing on the nerve is her diagnosis.
I've also have had 3 MRIs in an effort to identify
the exact source of the problem. I'm still waiting for the results...
It really sucks, having 2 numb fingers all the time.
