I had my cuts surgery 11 dyas ago-been off pain meds for 5 days..while concerned my fingers still numb and i do understand this will take awhile to repair itself..i have another question..is it a normal thing to experience a sort of depression state after the surgery--not so much a depression as fatigue--on the 9th and 10 day psot surgery i lost my appetite and so tired i could not drag myself out of bed..locked myself indoors and took teh phn offf the hook..i was concerned and determined i would ck with the doctor if not better today--today i woke up feeling more myself and ate breakfast and seem a little more in tune with myself..i mentioned this to my sister who said she has heard of post surgery syndrome with these same symptoms and mentioned they may come back-has anyone else had these symptoms and how long did they last and just to let you know i had the transposition of the ulnar nerve--will have stitches out in 2 more days

Howdy Gale,

I have never had "problems" after surgery that you described until my last one. I had my C6/7 vertebrae fused and about a week later I was totally exhausted, my appetite was tiny and like you, didn't feel much like getting out of bed. I was a bit depressed, but yeah, not "down in the dumps/clinical depressed", just bigtime "blah" feeling. After a while it passed. I think I was like that for about 4 days. My guess (and that is all it is) is that when we have surgeries, we are pumped will all manner of drugs. Our bodies recognize that we underwent a LOT of stress even if knocked out. I think for me, my body was telling me to kick back and let "it" take over for a bit. I hope you are feeling better soon. Take care.

Brenda

I had a similar situation when I had my decompression surgery in March. I didn't really have depression, but I felt physically wiped out. I lost 10 pounds in 2 weeks because my appetite was so poor. It lasted about 3 weeks or so and then I started feeling more like myself.

It's funny because I was so afraid of feeling like that after my transposition surgery 16 days ago, but despite some minor complications I feel great! I can't wait to go back to work. I'm going nuts at home. It is sooo hard to sit in my house and see something that needs to be done, but I shouldn't be doing it.

Well I hope you're feeling more like yourself. Hang in there!

I just had carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel surgery at the same time, so I can relate to you. I've got unbelievable pain, had to go back to the ER 2 days after. I read your comment and I've been told that 3 months will be the "time" for all to be "back to normal". I don't know. my doctor port-op isn't until nov 19th.
Let me encourage you to depend on God to bring you through each day. I do take pain meds, 2 that the ER doctor prescribed and he also gave me a sling (I had to ask for the sling). anyway, I can't do anything with my arm. its wrapped in a ace wrap, (soft wrap) and gauze. that is it. I can't do anything for 2 weeks until I see the doctor. get yourself some "ready bath" wipes and depend on God to get you through each day. thats how I make it. also my fiance is very helpful and supportive. so get with people if possible.

of course, if you have anything that works for you please tell me. I'll listen to anything that will help besides pills. know what I mean?
I'm getting married in January and going on a honeymoon, and my arm will be stitch free, I hope.
feel free to answer this if you so choose.
