Hi All,
I'm a newbie who is in early stages of CuTS, living in Midland, MI and searching for an expert specialist to evaluate my condition and help decide what to do in my particular case.
Anyone have any personal experience with specialists in Michigan (e.g., Ann Arbor Medical Center, Detroit Ford Hopsital)?
My family physician needs help knowing where to refer me.
Also, on the "Programmer's Nightmare ..." site, I noticed a reference to an online book entitled "Self Care for RSI/Ulnar Nerve". It was noted (in 2007) that this book cost $29.95, but the cost I saw in Oct, 2009 was $87.00. I wonder if anybody out there has used this book and found it helpful?
Thanks all for your input. I just found this site and hope it will help me figure out how to tackle this problem (better than my general physician can).
Dick

You might have your family doctor check with local pysical therapists for a specialist recommendation. My husband is a PT and he and his co-workers get a really good feel for the different docs and their patient outcomes. Because of this, my husband knew exactly who he wanted to treat me and I think my surgeon did a good job.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm really looking at prevention / therapy rather than surgery right now (fingers crossed) so maybe I really need a therapist or a clinic rather than a doctor?
I saw a reference to a book "Self Care for RSI/Ulnar Nerve" and I'm wondering if you or your husband are familiar with this, or know any other resources that are good?
Thanks again. I might post a direct query about the title above to see if anybody can give me a clue.

My husband was very surprised when the ortho recommended surgery before therapy but I'd been having wrist issues for 8 years so the ortho didn't seen any reason to wait any longer. If he was going to be in there doing the carpal and guyon, he wanted to take care of the cubital too (which after surgery, he told my husband was very irritated). I would definitely treat with wrist splints at night, towels around your elbows at night, and don't lean on your arms (that's my primary cause of CuTS). I can ask my husb about recommended exercises...mostly what he showed me were stretches for the arm/wrist. I can easily scan the pages he printed and email them or attach them.
