Chad,

Almost forgot! You might want to get that cervical spine MRI before *any* surgery decisions are made. This way you know (or should have a real GOOD idea) if you have "multiple crush" (entrapment) areas. Please keep us posted. Take care.

Yep, surgeon feels the same about getting the MRI prior to arm and hand surgery. He called my CuTS a "double crush".
I will post after MRI to give any kind of results they may or may night find. I hope they do not need to do back/neck surgery. Something about having a doctor messing around my spine kind of makes me nervous.

Cheers,
-Chad

Double crush, yeppers, been there, done that, have the scars! Err... the improvement marks to prove it! <G> Tomorrow I find out if more spine surgery is on the list for me. Revision for the neck, and then lumbar and thoracic - it doesn't end once the ole spine is fused somewhere for many of us! Damn...gotta start playing the lottery eh?

Yes, please let us know what the MRI reveals. I am glad to see they want to wait to be sure. Excellent! Chat again soon Chad. *HUG*

Ok, so the MRI went well this morning. But.....my hand now is real painful throughout the whole hand, and the pain now comes on almost every 5 seconds. I am taking the relafen for anti-inflammatory, and occasionally Vicoden for pain, but I find really no relief with the Meds. Is there something else I should ask the Doc to give me, or anything else while waiting for the MRI results to come back?

Howdy Chad,

Have you tried resting it "elevated" to see if that helps? Ice also sometimes helps. As to medications, the one thing you don't want to do is go to a doctor and say "I would like xx medicine", else you might be branded a "drug seeker" even if your aren't! Doctors get nervous when patients "tell them" what meds might work!

Until the report comes back for the MRI too, it is still unknown in it is a pain issue from nerves or something else. Did you get a CD of the MRI? If so, anything look weird to you? I get my thoracic and then lumber MRI study done tomorrow night after work - and I *always* leave with the CD in hand.

When the results come back, and it is nerve pain related, then you can ask him for something for "nerve pain." Most common is Lyrica and Neurotrin (not sure of the spelling for Neurotrin) Keep us posted Chad!!!

So I guess I'm a bit of a challenge patient for my doctor. the MRI shows a small herniation of C5 and C6. He doesn't believe it is enough to push on my nerves or spinal cord.
He will consult with some of his colleages about this and get back to me by Tuesday.

One thing he did mention was the possibility of a having a spinal CT done with contrast. Okay now, this does not sound like fun. Is this as painful as i think it will be? All my research shows a lumbar puncture process to get the contrast to your spinal cord. Can i hope or ask for sedation for this? Right now i would be able to tell him to go somewhere if he wants me to do this. Any reasurance would be great if this is not a big deal.

As far as the CuTS. He's not too sure how the neck issues correlate to my elbow and hand pain, but Doctor's still have alot to learn about nerves.

Thanks for the feedback. -Chad
