Okay, *My* turn to Pick You'll's brains! 1 Year, 12 Months ago

As the title implies, it is *my* turn to do some post surgical questions for possible answers! Okay, here we go....
In April, it will be 2 years post op for my Subcutaneous transposition and Guyon's release. Okay, from shortly after surgery to about 6 months I would get this crazy funky cramping of my hand, specifically to the ring and pinkie fingers - and yowzer did it hurt in the wrist and forearm. Okay after the 6 month mark, it seemed to go away.
Fast forward I have another level go in my neck (C6/7) go through another fusion, and for the first 6 weeks, "life is good", and a lot of my strength is coming back, and a lot of the numbness issues are going away. Week 7, weakness back to pre-surgical, and same for numbness. Come to find the top of my latest fusion has separated. NS is dealing with that. Okay ready? My turn to pick you all's brains now!!!
In the last 2 months or so, I get major cramping of all my fingers of the right hand - to include my thumb sometimes. When I had cramping/clawing for my ulnar issues, there was NO pain. With this, megga tear starting pain, and instead of the fingers "curling", they bend straight from the palm, and stay straight when they bend towards the palm. It is funny as the pinkie and ring will do it, then back off, and 10 minutes later the index and middle finger do it...back off, and the damn thumb (which folds over my palm!) does it! Nothing seems specific to trigger it, it just happens. Yep, there have been times when all of em do it together! I took pictures with my digital camera for a lot of this. I will print these funky hand actions and bring them to my NS (and my Ortho - as he wants a 2 year post op check of all things!). I see my NS in a little over 2 weeks to see if my fusion is taking yet and follow up on other issues.
Have any of you had this kind of cramping 2 years out? I am thinking my neck surgeries are more likely what is causing it, but wanted to run this here to see if any of you all had this? Again, I am interested in the "straight finger" cramp/claw (with megga pain when it happens) verses the 'curly finger' clawing here. I do think there is a distinction, but not sure yet. Thanks in advance guys!!

I experienced that for years with my thumb before my transposition surgery 4 months ago. Since my surgery I've had it happen a lot more often and to all fingers. It happens to one or two fingers at a time. With me it's mostly triggered by something I'm holding or touching. I can easily use my other hand and start moving the finger(s) so the pain goes away quickly. When I asked my surgeon about it, he suggested I return to the neurologist to discuss the issue.

Howdy Olga, and Thanks! I too had the thumb, finger cramping for a few months after my Ulnar transposition, but this is different. The fingers aren't cramping in a curly type manner as did then, they are "folding" if you will at the joint adjoining the palm!
Also unlike post surgical for the elbow, I can be just sitting here doing nothing and zing it happens! I can also feel it pulling (spasms I think?) up the arm to just below my armpit. I see my Neurosurgeon on the 26th for my 6 month follow up from my C6/7 surgery. The fusion isn't going right, so the affects of that might be why - it is the correct nerve and body wise, physical region! I took pictures of some of the worst "cramping", and will bring them to my doctor for my 6 month and see what he says.
Thanks again Olga.

Hi Brenda,
I have not had anything like what you are describing. I hope it stops doing that!
I'm only 3 months out of surgery right now. I get small twitches between my thumb and index finger, they are not painful - just annoying. I also get stronger spasms in both of my elbows. It starts in the joint area and contracts the muscle above the elbow in a strong rolling motion, very painful. However, I had that prior to surgery as well as after. I don't have any fingers being pulled.
Can you post photos on this forum?
*hug* to you,
Cindy

Howdy Cindy, and *HUGZ* back to ya! Thanks! I decided that I am going back to my Neurologist about this, and too the increasing issues of Thoracic sensitivity. I have to at a minimum wear a soft cloth band around the bottom ribs as when anything touches the skin all the way around, it burns! Certain areas hurt to push on as well - so gonna let him trouble shoot all of this!
Inputting pictures. I have added one of my neck X-Ray to experiment. When you go to post message, at the bottom you will see where you can attach a file or image. Chat with ya soon. *HUG*

Cindy,
Images... My first "experiment" I had to go back and edit the picture. It needs to be below about 35k, or else it takes over the whole posting area and is huge! Just thought you would like to know that tidbit!!! *HUG*
