Cynthia,

Please don't "freak" out. Pain is a good thing believe it or not! That means the nerve is still viable most likely, and therefore apt to heal and be back to being good once it is released! Weakness and no pain, worry! I am glad to see that you are not canceling given what you have posted and your obvious concerns. As I mentioned, we tend to stress more over the surgery (to come) vs the surgery and its result! Please keep us up on how it is going. A lot of us have been there, and maybe can let you know what you are going through is normal or different. We are here for you. Take care.

Ps... No "freaking out" now, okay? *HUG*

Cynthia, Brenda is right on, hard for me to believe anyone was more freaked out than me. My entrapment was the result of an elbow fracture and was misdiagnosed for 5 months during which time I was in horrible pain. I'd never had surgery before and my arm hurt so much I couldn't stand for anyone to touch it. I was terrified but resigned to surgery because my hand clawed. I had a great surgeon and he did a terrific job and I had immediate relief of tingling and hand pain. The surgery itself was not as bad as I thought it would be and in hind site I'm really glad I did it. 11 mos. out I'm still mending. Don't freak...go in informed, ask all your questions and fears. You can take control of this and you'll feel better for it. We're all here for you....Jennifaux

Thanks so much ladies

Actually I have had a awesome day today. No pain at all since 2:00!!!! Thursday I stopped taking pain meds. I was getting bruises on my hands and feet. My husband thought it was from the blood thinning properties of the meds. So I stopped and my pain did not get worse. So obviously they were not helping.

I think my problem is that I really don't have insurance so prior to me seeing a ortho guy I did a little research and did exactly what he would tell me to do and see if my symptoms would improve. So at my first appointment I went in with a list of the things I have done in the past 4 months. He looked at it and said "still having pain"? Surgery.
So in my mind I went what? That's jumping the gun a little. But this was exactly what I wanted to avoid was the endless appointments just to see how I was doing.

So I have not cancelled my surgery for the 22nd. She said I could call on Monday to let them know. We will see how the rest of the weekend goes and I will decide on Monday.

Take care all Thanks for the advice and support
Cynthia

PS really 11 months and your still mending? That kind of scares me. I've had other surgeries and I was healed within weeks not months. Yikes!

Howdy Cynthia,

Elective surgery (and that what it is, as it is "elective" as to when he have it or if...) is a very, very, did I mention,a very personal decision! I am very happy to hear you had a "good day", and maybe it isn't just a good day, but a change. Unfortunately, most of us aren't that lucky. Most surgeon's will let you get within a day or so of surgery to change your mind, so no pressure there.

Pain and meds...hummm... I could go on and on there! I have found that over the years my body is less and less tolerant anymore of a lot of that crap. Except for the occasional Tylenol (OTC), I only take Lyrica to control the radiating nerve pain I get from my spine issues - LOVE Lyrica! I am not into a lot of the other drugs for the main reason that they make me "loopy" and the dag-gum pain stays! It also makes me sit funny (not good for spine issues), and I hurt more when I wake up!

If you are having a good day off meds, most excellent to you Cynthia! I hope this is a trend of improvement, but please, don't let a day or more of "good" fool you into thinking all is well. If you start getting *any* weakness, don't delay - that cost me most of my right arm (spine for me), and now I am waiting for my disability retirement date! Your health just isn't worth it. Could I have done something different for my arm? No, disc herniated, game over. But with Ulnar on elbows and in the hand, you have a lot of control as to the outcome. Please keep us posted on how you are doing, and what you decide to do in the end. You have many here that support whatever decision you make. *HUG* Sleep well Ms Cynthia!!

Best...

Brenda

Well I was all set in my mind for my surgery on the 22nd but.....
I have had no pain at all since Friday at 2:00 p.m. Last night I had about an hour of pain and that was it. I've been fine the rest of the day and evening.

So I called and postponed the surgery. My Doc said right now it's elective. If my symptoms return and do not get better for a while then I need surgery for sure to avoid permanent damage.

I will just wait until the pain returns and deal with it then.

Thanks everyone
Cynthia

Howdy Cynthia,

"Do not get better for a while..." Did he define what a "while" is? I dunno, with me with the nerve damage I have in my spine, I guess I am sensitive to being maybe over protective of others? Mother hen stuff - ignore me! <G> I am very glad that your pain has stopped. Just please don't play around with it, it isn't worth it in the end. Please do keep us posted on how you are doing Cynthia? *HUG*
