Hey Brenda,
3. The neck adjustment at the chiro
4. Hitting the back of my head against a thick headboard.
I'm starting to wonder if the head injury is the culprit because symptoms are showing up more dominantly in my right arm now as well.
But the weird thing is I don't have neck pain anymore, and the pain level in my arm has grown very intense lately.
Sorry Dave, I meant to respond to these comments of yours, but forgot! Sorry...
As to the head, the spine is pretty hardy, but more likely than not (picturing you hitting your head), you would probably have had a major concussion as to affect the C7/T1 portion of the neck would be a hell of a hit! <G> Now of course, if you had problems at the base of your neck and did this, well, maybe.... The symptoms you describe however don't lead me to think the neck is causing it. Your doctor and diagnostic testing will tell for sure of course.
As for Chiro, it is possible, but again, the neck related pain would be continuing. Related I am meaning by the way, (and not all people are the same of course) pain, numbness in the shoulder, and down the back of your arm. Then of course to the elbow and below. You haven't mentioned any of this as of yet. It might not hurt (no pun intended) to talk with your Chiro of your concerns. He/she can do X-rays to be sure there isn't a misalignment going on that might be causing some of your symptoms. Just food for thought there Dave.
Hope your New Years went great!!!

Hey Brenda,
I had a pretty good New Years. Amazingly, I went from feeling like my arm was in a vice, just crushing intense pain on Thursday to being almost pain free on Friday! I can't find any patterns as to what triggers pain relief. I guess the nerve does calm.
Your reply was helpful, as always! I also find it hard to believe that the bump on the back on my head could have damaged my neck that bad. The chiro did tell me I had some neck joints out of alignment. My family doc tells me chiros say that to everyone so who do u trust these days? My family doc didn't seem to think the neck was related when I saw him last June. He did some range of motion tests with my neck.
I never felt pain or numbness in the shoulder, but I have felt it run up under my armpit at times. Do you ever get pain like that?
I am so relieved that I finally got some pain relief because this should mean that I didn't get permanent damage from the snuggle incident. Thanks again for taking time to write to me.

Howdy Dave,
Glad to hear your doctor also feels the problem isn't in your neck - a can of worms you hopefully won't ever have to open!!
Give it a bit of time and see if the improvement continues. In some ways I agree with your doctors comment reference Chiropractors. On another though, I have seen GP's that really aren't well trained/versed in the spine, and still think Chiropractors are 'voodoo' or something! Have you tried some adjustments to see if you feel better? Most times if there are no herniations or degeneration of the disks, it won't hurt anything.
As for pain above the elbow almost (or too) the armpit, you might be getting muscle spasms from the stress induced on your neck - be it from posture, stress, alignment issues etc. Muscle spasms if they are sharp can be mistaken for nerve pain.
You're welcome on the replies. I am glad that they are of help to you. Tis my pleasure as they say. Please let us know how things progress for you. Take care.
Brenda
