Is Anyone Out There? Worried Again! 2 Years, 1 Month ago

Wish more people would reply to threads. Seems like a dead forum here.
Well I've done a 180 with my problem. Nerve pain returned last week pretty significant, but it was my Saturday night date that really put me in a new state of despair and worry.
I was playing guitar and a bit concerned that the muscles in my left hand were not showing full. My date is a nurse and she asked me to squeeze her hand with my good hand then with the CTS hand. She told me that the CTS hand was much weaker and I couldn't even hurt her hand. She also told me that my problem is likely to only get worse.
I had no idea that my hand was abnormally weak. I haven't been dropping anything or felt clumsy. I can still play guitar.
To make matters worse, this woman is rather large and she snuggled up around my nerve arm and then roll over putting a lot of pressure on that arm. It was brief, but now I'm worried that it might have crushed the nerve.
Of course, now that she told me this, my hand does feel weak and defective. Should I be really worried about this? I don't want worry to ruin my Christmas!

This forum is what we make it. It's not like we are all paid to wait around and answer your questions. That's why doctors make hundreds of dollars an hour.
Re: I'm worried that it might have crushed the nerve.
I had a friend in high school whose girlfriend fell asleep on his arm and damaged one of his nerves so that he required surgery. But that was many years ago before I had my CuTS and even thought about nerves, so I'm not sure if it was his ulnar nerve.
If your symptoms returned after this incident, it's possible your girlfriend did damage your ulnar nerve.

Yes, you should be worried, but don't let it ruin your Christmas. It's not like you're going to get into surgery in the next few days. Make an appointment with a doctor who has CuTS experience, then relax and enjoy the holidays.

Howdy TxDave. I agree with what Simodo posted before me. Additional to it I would like to add that many who "get their" answers and recover go on their way. Some of us read and see that our past experiences might be of help, and do, so we post. I see that on all sites that are specific to health issues. Unfortunately that many times makes for "slow" responses.

Other self checks you can do is ...can you cross your fingers on that hand? How is your pinching ability? If you splay your fingers out (check both hands to compare) and someone tries to put the fingers back together, does the affected hand just close to the closing, or can the fingers resist?
What your girlfriend did do shows that something is going on. The pinkie and ring finger is directly "Ulnar" related. It could be in your arm, or your hand, or (as I found) both. You already are stating that your hand is weak, the tests above show more range to determine dexterity and strength as well.

Worry? Yes. Let it ruin Christmas? NO!!! You didn't say she impacted your arm, but rather "snuggled", so I would guess that her action either further entrapped it, or just brought forth pressure enough to bring the issue solidly forward. I would get an appointment with your GP or if your insurance allows, your original surgeon and let him know your concerns, symptoms and what happened when your lady friend got close. There isn't much you can do before the holiday. Try to relax and then get it looked at after the holidays. Please keep us posted on how it goes. Take care.

Food for Holiday thought? I've have 5 nerve related surgeries in a year and a half (2 major), and am facing at least 4 major ones in the year coming up. I WILL still enjoy Christmas! I won't let nerves take that from me!! *HUG*

Yeah I see the same thing on the tinnitus board. There is no cure for that so after you begin to accept you, you don't want to hang around the message board and be reminded of the ringing.

Thank you for the test suggestions. I can pinched my fingers together, and I am able to cross the index and middle finger, but just barely. The weird thing is I can barely do the crossing on my good hand as well. My fingers are not very long. Course one depressing explanation is I have ulnar nerve problems in my right arm as well. Now that puts me in a new state of fear. The thought of losing both hands.

I'll finally have health insurance on Jan. 1 so I can start getting some answers. I am trying to stay positive as evident in my previous post on here, but this incident really set me back. I am hoping that when she rolled on my arm, it was no more dangerous than someone squeezing the arm. As long as there is not contant pressure on the nerve, I wouldn't think it would make the problem worse.

Well, I don't know if on here it is a case(s) of people not wanting to be around it so much, more so they get enough relief and move on is all. I see that on my spine site. There are as I mentioned, some of us that still stick around to help answer questions where we can.

Sorry to worry you more, but it is one of the tests my Ortho had me do. At that time, I could not cross my right fingers at all - couldn't barely get the dang middle finger "near" the index finger! Spread out the fingers on that hand, and almost no resistance when my surgeon went to close them! Mine had gone from "annoying" to serious in just a few months.
You also might be reading this going, "Wait a minute, my Ulnar is the issue, why is it that those fingers are affected?" Because as your Ulnar gets more entrapped or hopefully not damaged, the intrinsic muscles in your hand are controlled by the Ulnar! The Median and Radial nerves don't have such control in the reverse!

Well I left my closing piece in here..I have had a lot of "bad news" with my spine. I find that if I dwell on it, I go nuts. Try not to go into the "what ifs, what is, what can" mode. Wait till you see a specialist, and then you will see what kind of cards are in the deck! Just realize that at the present time, you can't control what is going on. You might give it some "de-stressing" by not leaning on it, using it too much, letting it curl when you sleep etc. Also too, try to SMILE and enjoy the holidays! Negative stress is negative to healing or staying healthy. Try to enjoy the holidays!!! Take care.

Hey guys,
I hope everyone had a good Christmas. I had a hard time ignoring my problem. The damn ulnar nerve kicked up the pain a new notch and it was relentless. Now I am sick with worry because before, I would at least get periods of relief, usually on the weekends away from the computer.
I'm sure I've asked this before, but is pain a better sign than numbness? I read somewhere that pain is a sign of the nerve healing. My problem started with tingling fingers. Now the fingers feel normal for the most part, but I get this pain like critters are biting on my arm and a bear claw clapped on my elbow!
