Hello everyone,
I had an ulnar nerve release 2 weeks ago and redo of my carpal tunnel surgery. I haven't been on in a while cuz I had to have a cast over my wrist and hand becuz there ended up being sooo much scar tissue in my hand from the previous surgery. Much more than the surgeon expected so he had to make a much larger cut and I had to have a drain in it so that really sucked. It was a pretty painful surgery but I will say that the simple decomression of my ulnar nerve was not bad. But I truely feel for all of you that have to have that nerve moved just b/c I know how much my hand/ wrist hurt after surgery. and my elbow is still pretty tender. I got my stitches out today so it feels alot better than it did yesterday. I started physical therapy today too. I can't believe the dramatic difference this surgery has made with the amount of sensation i can now feel in my fingers. I wish everyone luck with there nerve problems. I know how frustrating pinched nerves can be and how it can dramatically limit what activities and jobs you can do. Surgery is painful but it gets better so keep your head up and find a good surgeon that specializes in the hand and upper extremity. I did not do that with my original CTS surgeon therefore it had to be redone which was alot more painful....Merry Christmas ya'll

Hi Rebecca,

I'm glad to hear your ulnar nerve is doing well with the decompression surgery! What kind of doctor did your original carpal tunnel surgery? Was it the dr or his/her speciality that was of concern?

Cindy

My original surgeon was an orthapedic surgeon. She was not a hand specialist or anything. My new doc is a hand and upper extremity specialist and he has been doing this kinda surgery since the late 70's and was trained at Vanderbuilt and Louisville for special surgery of the hand.
