Does anyone know if the person who does the first part of the nerve conduction test have to be licensed or have any special training?

Don't know the exact answer to your question, although I'm sure there is a degree/credential acronym for nerve mojo but I can tell you the first one I had performed on me was done by an Associate Doctor who is a pain specialist at my former Ortho practice. He didn't find anything unusual but was interested in the ganglion nerve block if medication didn't help. Changed Dr.s ,went to arm/hand specialist who sent me to another Dr. for a redo of the nerve( EMG and another can't remember name) but that is ALL this guy does is nerve tests and he was on it right away. Said there was blockage. When I asked my new Doc why he ordered another nerve test (would my ins. pay????for another) he said " The nerve test is only as good as the guy thats interpreting it!!!! So, take what you will from that! Jennifaux

Yes, the NCV and EMG MUST BE DONE BY A NEUROLOGIST!!!!

I had two done. the first one by some technician that came in to my family doctor's office. My hand surgeon looked at it and threw away the results. Had the second one done by a Neurologist and it was night and day difference between the tests. Neurologist almost took an hour.

This is not an XRAY, it is a test that needs to be modified as you go. It is a debug process that only a Neurologist understands.
