A dire predicament. 2 Years, 10 Months ago Karma: 0
I think I might have CuTS. I have this tingling all in my pinky, ring finger, and the side of my hand. The pain is really terrible, sometimes radiating from my elbow and sometimes on the outer part of my hand (it's kind of hard to tell where, it's like this overall ache/throb/nerve pain).

I've woken up with my pinky and ring finger being numb before, maybe once a month, but I never thought it was something bad. Now that I think about it, a few years ago I went to the doc for pain on the inside of my elbow, but he said it was nothing and it stopped after a week. Now it's gotten pretty severe and my pinky and ring finger feel really odd.

I'm a musical accompanist. I play for all rehearsals and I'm the pianist in the orchestra as well. The thing is, we're opening next Thursday. The pain is barely tolerable when I start playing piano, and it got so bad today that after 3.5 hours of rehearsal, I just couldn't play anymore. Now I'm facing a 9 hour rehearsal tomorrow. How is this even going to be possible?

I'm going to have to put almost 40 hours in next week. I've been taking ibuprofen like a madman and using alternating ice and hot packs, also applying cooling patches but after a few hours of rehearsing the pain is unbearable. The directors and producers are not understanding because it is the week before opening and because I'm doing it on a scholarship (I'm in high school, this money is going toward my college). I'm scared of doing permanent damage with these rehearsals.

I would be very appreciative if anyone has any ideas. Thanks in advance!

oh yes it sounds like you definitely have CuTS.. i went to my primary doc and she referred me to a neurologist, where i had my nerve conduction study and EMG done. from there i was sent to an orthopaedic hand surgeon. from the way you are describing, i'd say more than likely you will end up having surgery. which type of surgery will depend on your surgeon.

i hate that you are having the pain, especially being so young. and it's going to take a little time to get your appt's and get everything in order to get it taken care of. just hang in there and i wish you the best of luck!
