Does anyone know about how much an Ulnar Nerve Transposition without insurance costs? How about decompression? I couldn't find anything on the internet. Any ideas?

Hey Kaybe,

I think when I had my transpositions, it cost about $15,000/surgery. The decompression was about the same. I didn't have general anesthesia, so there was no charge for that.

That was just for the actual surgery. There were also the initial consultation which was about $300, follow-up visits, EMG/NCV, OT/PT. (I also ended up with a neurology consult & a peripheral nerve ultrasound & custom-made splints for both my hands).

I don't want to discourage you, because if you're having a problem, it needs to be addressed. I work in a really large hospital & they have financial counselors who can work with patients who are uninsured or underinsured. Check to see if your local hospital has something like that. If not and there's a larger hospital system a reasonable distance from where you live, consider going there.

Hang in there,

Chris

My simple ulnar decompression surgery + follow-up appointments in 2008 cost about $12,000. With my insurance, I had to pay about $700 out-of-pocket.

I just got the bill in the mail for my simple decompression. My day in the hospital cost around $4,200 USD. After insurance, I am responsible for around $800 USD. I'm not sure if there are any other charges that are still pending, but from what I'm seeing, I don't believe so. If there is anything else, I'll let you know.

Got the last bill in the mail for the anesthesia. Final total is just under $5000 USD, I payed just under $850 after insurance. I live in Southern Maryland.

Thank you! That is very helpful! Not nearly as bad as I was expecting!

Except, I live in California, so it will probably be a bit more. We'll see how it goes!
