Cindy,
You were right about trying to desensitize the scar. I use squares of various types of material and rub down the lenth of my incision all the way down the nerve to my hand. I do scar massage a few times a day as well to help break up scar tissue.
As for my other neurological issues....hmmm...well I do have an autonomic dysfunction. It started about 9 years ago after I had my youngest daughter. I was diagnosed when she was about 15 months old. Basically when I'm upright (generally standing, especially exercising), instead of constricting to help push blood up to my head, my blood vessels (mainly in the legs) dilate and the blood pools and isn't able to get to my head. My blood pressure drops, my heart rate goes way up, I feel nauseated and lightheaded, often get migraine headaches. Occasionally I would pass out during heavy exercise. Treatment for this was meds, a high salt diet, compression stockings and making sure to keep myself well hydrated. Was able to wean from meds about five years ago and up until a few weeks ago was doing fine. I think that somehow this nerve pain I'm experiencing is throwing my AD into high gear. My surgeon agrees and thinks Lyrica may help, but because it can cause dizziness is reluctant to start me on it before I see neuro. Even though I'm ok with that, I really think that controlling my nerve pain will help with my AD.
Sorry this is such a long post. It's starting to get a little complicated. Hopefully we'll get something sorted out in a couple weeks.
Chris

Hi Chris,
That's a different neurological disorder. I hope it gets back under control. At one time I had vertigo and continued dizziness, the urgent care said to make sure I wasn't dehydrated. I guess that has something to do with it? Mine was just a one time thing, but the only thing they could find wrong was that when I stood up my heart rate went over 100 and but my bp stayed the same, so no explaination. Never happened again. I feel for you, that wouldn't be nice to have that continue on.

Hey Folks,
Well I had my appointment with neurology today. They are gonna start me on neurontin for my merve pain and do additional testing for my autonomic dysfunction. I think they're ruling out RDS and some other neuromuscular and/or autonomic disorders. I'll start the neurontin next week after the additional testing.
take care,
Chris

How's the neurontin working out? Have you had any more testing for neuromuscular and/or autonomic disorders?

Hey Cindy,
Well, I started Neurontin on Wed. No changes yet. From what I've heard it takes a week or two for it to kick in. Unfortunately, based on my test results from last week it looks like I'm in for some additional testing.
I'll keep you posted.

Hi Chris,
What kind of testing did they do that made them want more? Hope you get some answers.
