Question for my fellow Sub-Q Post Surgery Peeps... 1 Year, 11 Months ago Karma: 0
I'm probably totally overreacting but this seems odd to me...

Yesterday my hand and elbow started hurting a little. Not a lot but definitely more than it has in a long time. My work has picked up a lot so maybe it's just more computer use than I'm used too and maybe some stress for good measure. But this morning, I checked out my elbow in the mirror as I occasionally do, feeling the numbness around my incision, etc. I had my elbow bent all the way so my hand was at my shoulder and for the first time, I saw a small (maybe centimeter) raised area on the outside of the epicondyle. I realized immediately that this was my relocated ulnar nerve. Holy cow! Is it supposed to be freaking visible on the surface? How is that possibly protected from injury if just by flexing my arm, it protrudes so that it's visible to the naked eye? My husband the PT confirmed that it's definitely the nerve moved to the other side. But I swear it wasn't visible before.

So my question is, can anyone else see their nerve now? Did something happen to make it pop to the surface? Should I be concerned that the fact I can now see it is related to this sudden relapse of minor aches and pain in my hand and elbow? I'm hoping to put my mind at ease here!

Not here. I just positioned my right arm in the fashion you described, and I don't see anything like you are describing. Since your hubby is "up" on anatomy, I would give my surgeon a call and describe this to him. I would figure he will want to see you even if to maybe (fingers crossed) find that a ligament got irritated and is sticking up a bit.

Please let us know how it goes. Take care.

Thanks B...

I might just take a picture and send it to the surgeon to ask if that's normal. It could be something else but I don't have that on my other arm and it wasn't there before. Since surgery was in October, I can't imagine that this is something that just appeared because swelling went down.

Hi girls,

I had my sub-q in early Nov. Just checked out my elbow in the mirror and no bump.

If you take a photo will you post it on the forum so we can take a look? Let us know what dr says. hmmmm

KBT, I forgot to ask. This bump, is it hypersensitive to the touch? If indeed that is your Ulnar relocated it would be like hitting a funny bone if you will when you tap it?

Did you find anything out from your surgeon yet? Fingers crossed as it might be as simple as scar tissue! Take care.

Ok, I took a pic but it's not great quality because the flash washed a lot out and it's not in complete focus because I had to take it of my own arm. I indicated with arrows what I'm talking about though so I hope you can see it. I am having pain again in my little finger and arm. I also had CTS and GCS surgery at the same time as my CuTS surgery on 10/5. I haven't yet contacted my surgeon about this. I guess I'm hoping that I'm over reacting and the pain will resolve itself if I give it a little more time. But if it continues, I'll definitely seek his opinion. I just don't want to waste either of our time if it's nothing.

When I touch the raised area, it's numb like novacaine from the dentist. I did hit my elbow pretty hard a month ago and it was pretty darn sore for a couple days afterwards.

It won't let me post the pic here because it's too big. But you can go to my blog at kbt0416.blogspot.com to see it.
