Re-injury after tranposition surgery? 2 Years ago

Hi, I had my ulnar nerve transposition surgery the day before Thanksgiving on 09. Things went great!!! I had immediate relief and thought things were going very well.
Well, 3 weeks ago I had to move. I tried to take it easy but when it came down to it I had to do some pretty heavy lifting. Now my elbow it really hurting and my pinky finger and top of the hand are totally numb, tingling, and sore....all at the same time. It actually seems worse than before the surgery at times.
Have anyone else experienced anything like this? I am really hoping I just aggrevated it since the surgery was not too long ago. Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated bedause I relocated for a new job and can not see a dr until my new insurance starts.

Hello Tony, and welcome to the site!!
Have you called your doctor or surgeon with your concerns? Running the math in my head...you are about 2 and a half months post op now? I would give my doctor a call if this doesn't clear up in a few days, and too I would use heat and ice off and on (alternate) to get the swelling down, and get the circulation going again.
Hopefully at this time frame you did not damage the surgery site at all. Heat gets the circulation going, and then let your elbow come back to normal temperature and then ice for any swelling - about 15 minutes each application, see if that helps. Please keep us posted.

I am reviving this thread since I have an update.
After almost a yr of dealing with re-injuring the ulnar nerve I had surgery again on Dec 29th. The sling used in my original surgery had broken that was holding the nerve in place while it healed. This allowed the nerve to slide down onto my elbow. After 10 months of trying to deal with it my hand had lost most of it's feeling and the nerve had become very aggrevated.
So now I am recovering again. The immediate relief felt on the first surgery has not happened. I am hopeful in time it heals and I can return to normal. My advice to everyone is take your time and let the surgery heal properly. I set myself back a year and probably caused some more permanent damage.

Tony what type of transposition did you have? I had intramuscular and never heard of a sling being used? Could you explain? I thought they just transposed it in a more safe place into the muscle prohibiting what happened to you to happen?

I had subcutaneous transposition surgery where they go just under the skin and attach the nerve to the muscle with a fasciodermal sling. This is supposed to be pretty good once it heals.
My Dr is a sports medicine doc and likes this method best. He says usually the success rate is very high.I guess I will find out after I allow it to heal this time.
On a positive note I am starting to regain some sensation in my pinky finger after 4 days. hopefully this is a good sign of things to come.

I've had surgery on both elbows in the last year, the first one was in April. The doctor did the nerve transposition, ie relocated it under the muscles. The doctor's first words to me after the surgery were you couldn't have waited any longer. He basically saved the nerve from further damage, it least that is my thinking. However, when I do weight lifting, there is additional numbness/tingling in the little finger of the hand. After a few days, it will start to get better. I'm concerned about doing further damage to the nerve doing these exercised, but the doctor says no. I pick weights that allow me to get twenty rep's in since I just want to maintain strength. As example I will use 30lbs in each hand to do a curl.
What do you think, am I doing further damage?
