Best Ulnar Nerve Surgeons in the country !!! 4 Years, 8 Months ago Karma: 0
I am based in Atlanta and I wanted to post on this board to help everyone benefit from my extensive research locating the best surgeon in the United States for an Ulnar Nerve Transposition. I recently went through an ulnar nerve transposition surgery with Dr. Susan MacKinnon out of Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis Missouri. She is recognized as the leader in peripheral nerve surgery in the United States and performed the very first nerve transplant in the United States. There is also one other doctor in Baltimore called Dr Allan Belzberg who was trained by Dr. McKinnon who is also meant to be one off leading peripheral nerve surgeons.

I had very little pain after the surgery with Dr. Susan McKinnon and I am at the 10 day mark after surgery with almost complete use of arm back and no numbness in my fingers. She is truly a remarkable surgeon.

She will also attach a painball to your arm after surgery which will continue to administer anesthetic to you arm which will almost alleviate all pain for the first five days which are usually the toughest.

I strongly advise you look at getting in touch with the this surgeon if you're wanting an Ulnar nerve transposition. she has not had to redo one of her ulnar nerve transposition surgeries in 10 years. You can expect a complete full recovery in 2 months even though I expect mine will take even less.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience with us. I appreciate your being so specific, since it is hard to find much information about this particular condition here in the forum or anywhere else for that matter.

Thanks again, and good luck with your recovery.

Dick

Thanks for the original post - it's good to know! Did you fly to St. Louis to have the surgery done? If so, how long did you stay in Missouri before you were able to go back home?

I delayed replying here, as I thought Timm might chime in.... This statement reminds me of the "grits" statement from the movie "My Cousin Vinny" concerning the cooking time for grits! I am very disturbed in that you are told that "one can have complete recovery" in 2 months.

Nerves DON'T regenerate that fast!!!! I am sorry. She may be good, and that is great, but sorry SHE can not get the average nerve "back and happy" in 2 months. Also too, to state a "complete recovery" in xx amount of time. Not good. NO doctor gives those kind of odds to anyone. Now *she* might not have had to do a revision surgery on one of "her" surgeries, but (and I KNOW some surgeons are very good, but NONE are that good) stuff happens. Some or most of us end up going to other surgeons to "fix" another surgeons fubars! Sorry, too good to be true!

I am glad that you had a really good experience with her - but many have much more entrapment, and much of these "promises" give false hope to most! Sorry....

Brenda
