hello kbt and brenda!
yes not many guyon releases here.
kbt we had surgery the same day. i just got my stitches out tues.
i can tell you i have a lot of swelling and irritation to the ulnar nerve. my pinky is slightly clawed and i dont have a lot of control over it. i was told and i can tell you it can take several months for the swelling to improve.
my left hand is still healing from may 11, it really takes time.
i also have tennis elbow on right side and it is really just getting to be a real pain.....
i am told this is not uncommon.....you girls know anything about that?
take care.

Howdy Lib!

It sounds like you are healing very well. I don't recall how long it took for *all* of my swelling to leave my hand - but a few months sounds pretty familiar to me. I didn't have too much clawing as when the surgeon released the A-1 pulleys - he did that to fix the clawing I started having before the surgery. The two fingers would curl up tight!

I didn't have any tennis elbow issues, but my guess?? It could be that your other arm was trying to make up for what your left arm couldn't do and therefore it became irritated? The closest thing I ever had to it was from bowling of all things! Before all these nerve issues, I used a 16lb ball with full fingertip release. I found that using a small forearm brace (sits just below the elbow) stopped the pain! My league secretary lent hers to me, and at the time I though she was nuts! Wow, it worked instantly. After a few weeks I never had that pain again. I am assuming you are getting the pain on the area just below and on the outer side of your arm of your elbow? If you are, try that brace, it might prove to be a huge help! Take care.

hi brenda!
well this tennis elbow started in august, when i told my surgeon she was not surprized, she actually just spoke of this at a hand surgery confrence, said she finds a lot of carpal and tennis elbow going together. my carpal was getting worse as well. i have used that brace for what they thought was golfers elbow, turns out it was the nerve, ulnar. i will ask mt pt about it as my hand surgeon wants her to work on it a bit, she gave me a shot when i was under on the 5th, but i think its only helped a bit. yes thats the same area you speak of. hopefully in time it will resolve as well.
i am still getting pains here and there on the inside as well.bla i am tired of it all.
thanks brenda! i hope your healing well from your
surgery!

Howdy back at ya Lib!!

It sounds like your doctor is pretty up on what is going on with you - and too it looks like you are a "good fit" for each other. I hope you find relief soon as pain constantly is tiring to be sure!

I am back in a hard collar 10 weeks post op with a "Bone Growth Stimulator" because the top of the fusion pulled apart! Figures!!! At any rate, I hope this contraption works, as I am not thrilled at what they call "revision" surgery. For it they open the back of your neck and add more rods and things. Sigh... I am going to keep up with a phrase I hated as a kid, but found to be soooooo true: "Patience is a Virtue!" Keep us posted on how your doing Lib. Take care.

Hi Lib and Brenda!

I got my stitches out on the 20th and yowzah, that freakin hurt! I have maybe slight clawing in my pinkie and some pain like I did before surgery but I just went back to work this week and I'm starting to type again so I guess that's not surprising. No numbness in fingers but my palm is numb. Wrist is still really bruised and the heel of my palm super swollen. My elbow is doing well. Some numbness and I can't straighten it all the way but my incision is remarkably small, less than 2 inches! And they did the Guyon and Carpal through one incision! I go back to the surgeon on the 17th and I may just have to make him cookies!

hi girls!
brenda, i think you deserve an award, you handle things with such a positive outlook and patience i think you have mastered through all of this, i wish you a speedy recovery!
kbt, the heel of my hand is super swollen, more than the last hand surgery and this time the ulnar side is ticked off from it, the last time it was the carpal side. kbt what are you doing or not doing with the hand? i am still being very careful, but forgot to ask about limits, i go to PT today and will see. they told me another month for work, my job is very hands on, so maybe thats why.
take care girls!
