Hello. my name is Kathy. I had the carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel done at the same time (left arm). anyway, I had general anesthesia, it went great. I had no problems with the surgery and right now I'm waiting on my postop appt. I had to go back to ER for pain 2 days after, but you ask the doctor ahead of your surgery if they'll give you a prescription for a STRONG pain med. I personally take morphine 2x a day and oxycodone every 8 hours and that keeps it "under control" unless I use my arm too much.
I can feel the stitches now and its starting to itch, but I'm getting through each day with God's help. the pain meds help me sleep too, which is a problem because my arm being wrapped (my arm is wrapped in gauze and a ace wrap. they said I'd by in some king of hard cast. (they lied or nurse didn't know at my pre-op appt.
I encourage you. You will do great. there is nothing to it, but as you know, after all surgery there is pain afterwards. I just wish my pain med worked as fast as it takes to make me sleepy. my follow=up appt is the 19 november. I'll be praying for you. I think you'll be ok, so try not to worry.
Friend, I hope this helps you. the first few days after your surgery, relax and rest as much as you can. (I take anxiety meds so I had to definitely take them, then they gave me Xanax after I got to the hospital. you know nothing after midnight day before, but they had ordered the drugs for me to calm down already. I hope this will help you.

just try to relax. they'll give you something to calm you down before they knock you out. I needed mine. I immediately went to sleep and was very thankful for it.
you'll be ok. I had the surgery on 6th of november and it isn't so bad as they say. my arm is sure (had carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel done at same time), so my left arm is (out of commission) until the 19th (1st poso-op chechup.) I can't wait, my arm itches, they didn't put clean bankages on mine, there is dried blook where the stitches are. my ace wrap came off one night while I was sleeping so I saw my stitches and wrapped it back best I could.
my elbow is very sore and my entire left arm hurts to move it.
ask you dr. for a arm sling? I did when I went back to ER for pain med that worked. the one the surgeons gave me didn't work at all.
hope this helps you. my experience hasn't been bad, I make it through each day with God's help and my wonderful fiance.

Hi again everybody-

I had my left arm done yesterday, both ulnar and carpal. Things went really well. This time a little better than last, havent had to take any pain meds.

But, I will say get a good sling and keep arm elevated as much as possible. It's a little tender, but I've been using ice, it helps. When you get home, if you're tired, sleep.

I have a 10 day follow up to remove some of the bandages and maybe (hopefully)some of the staples on the 23rd.

Good luck to everyone.

Keep smiling.

karen
