gettin nervous 2 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
Hello everyone,
I was diagnosed with CuTS about...I dunno about 3 years ago...after a follow-up EMG for carpal tunnel...about 3 weeks ago went to a surgeon to have my hand re-operated on and now am also having the ulnar nerve worked on...havin the surgery on the 18th and it's just now hitting me....I am not at all nervous about the 'hand' part of the operation cuz I know what to expect..but extrememly fearful of what is gonna be done with my elbow...anyone have any advice or words of wisdom...anyone ever had carpal and ulnar release at the same time?? How bad is the pain...I dunno what kinda operation on my elbow yet... he said he needs to go in there and look at the nerve first...I hope that I don't have the transpo.

Hi -

I did have carpal and ulnar release done last June, 2009 on my right arm. Tomorrow I am having the same thing done on my left arm.

I was uncomfortable in the elbow for awhile, swelling lasted longer than I thought it would. However, my right hand and elbow are doing great. Have no more tingling or numbness in fingers.(which is great because I am right-handed) I just hope I have as much luck when my left arm heals.

Good luck to you.

Howdy Rebecca,

I had my elbow done with a subcutaneous transposition, and I had the "Guyon's Canal" release done in April 2008. The area of Guyon's is only like 3mm from Carpal Tunnel's incision site. Like kjd, the swelling was the most prominent after surgery issue. Pain wasn't bad at all. If I remember correctly, I only took the pain pills for maybe 3 days. I wasn't bad. Take care.

Like Brenda, I had CuTS, Carpal and Guyon but all together on 10/5. Really the hand is taking a lot longer to heal than the elbow and I had Subcutaneous Trans not a decompression. Yes, I still have numbness and some pins and needles in the elbow along with tenderness and general soreness but in general, it's not painful. Sleeping is probably the hardest because it's hard to find a position where the elbow incision is not pressing against something. After the day of surgery, I really did not have a bad time because I stayed on top of my pain with meds and ice. It will be okay!

thank you all for your replies I am getting calmer about the surgery. I am pretty sure I won't have to have the transpo b/c my cubital tunnel pain right now is not that bad...just feels like something is pressing on my funny bone all the time..my right hand is what really hurts...thank you soo much for the replies

Rebecca,

So glad to see you are getting more comfy = less stress! I think sometimes we all "stress" more than we need to with surgeries! I've now had 5 nerve related surgeries in the last year and a half - more to come unfortunately. I have found that checking with others who have "been there, done that" to be a MAJOR help in de-stressing! Please keep us posted on how you do! Take care...
