I will be having surgery on Friday and just wanted to know what types of pain meds others received for post-op?

Hey Wotan,
When I had my both my in situ decompression and my more recent transposition, my doc sent me home with percocet. I think most surgeons will prescribe some kind of narcotic pain reliever. I hardly used any of my presciption pain meds with the decompression. I did have a little more pain with the transpostion but was just using motrin and/or tylenol after about 5 days. Today though was my 1st day back at work, I think I overdid it a little and ended up taking the percocet. Tomorrow, I'll slow down a little.
Good luck on Friday!

vicodin for two-three days for my transpositions. PA gave be a few options and just told me its best to use one you have used in the past and that you know you dont have any bad reactions to.

I was given percosets. My advice is to take whatever you are prescribed religiously for the first few days and then see how you do with lengthening the time in between doses. After a week, I didn't need them anymore and now I just take tylenol if I'm hurting (it's been 4 weeks since my surgery). Ice is good too!

I was given something that didn't work, hydrocodone if I remember right, and went to ER 2 days after my surgery and they gave me morphine tabs and oxycodone pills. they work but you have to be careful. my fiance has to drive me everywhere for a while. until my arm is better. know what I mean?
