Hi everyone,
I'm new to this group and I was wondering if anyone knows of a good orthopedic surgeon in Southern California?
I have been diagnosed with cubital tunnel syndrome from two different doctors based on clinical exams only. (ncs/emg normal).
I'm off work now because of my condition and I need to find a good doctor fast.
I do have a doctor now, which is a sports medicine doctor who says that he has done 60 ulnar transportation surgeries last year. I don't know if it means he's experienced enough???
I thought I would ask this forum if I should see a hand surgeon instead?
Thanks,
Cindy

Good Evening,
My surgeon was Dr. Prosper Benhaim at UCLA Medical Center.
I had ulnar transpostion surgery on October 7 and just returned to work on November 9. I am very pleased with the results. He did tell me healing time will be about a year so I am being very patient.

Good Evening,
Dr. Benhaim specializes in hand surgery and plastic surgery. I stayed home for 5 weeks after surgery. And yes, I am back at work using both hands--I have a desk job and use the computer about 75% of the time. I did purchase a split keyboard which makes typing much easier. However, I have to get up and stretch my arm each hour.
How did your surgery go?

That's encouraging that you are using both arms at work. When did your dr have you start moving the arm again?
My dr said mr surgery went well. I'm ok during the day as long as I don't move it. I have a half cast from wrist to shoulder which I remove once a day and staighten out my arm then I wrap it back up. This hurts, but hopefully is a good measure towards recovery.
I'm having a hard time sleeping. Did you find a comfortable sleeping position to accomodate the incision point?

I started using my arm about 3 days after surgery (email, surf web). I had a soft bandage for 2 weeks then removed it completely. I still use it at work just in case I bump my elbow. At home, I am sans bandage.
As for sleeping, arm is straight out with a firm pillow underneath for support. This takes practice since I use to sleep with arms bent under my pillow.
The pain lessened in about 3 weeks after surgery. However, I still take a pain killer at bedtime 2-3 times a week. Hang in there. It does get better.
