Hi everyone. My name is Vanessa, and I was diagnosed with a subluxing ulnar nerve approximately 3 months ago at the age of only 20 years old. Having grown up playing piano and trumpet, participating in softball, and being nurtured into a potential prolific writer (pursuing a B.A. in Creative Writing), I have been devastated to find out that I can no longer participate in these activities without agravating the condition at such a young age.
I noticed something was wrong almost six months ago, when I realized that I was having intermittant tingling in my pinky finger. This occasional tingling progressed into full-time tingling, and finally reduced sensation and numbness over the course of the next few months.
I began physiotherapy immediately, and about two weeks ago I was sent for a nerve conduction test. At this moment in time, my doctor's referral to the neurosurgeon has not yet been sent out, as he has not yet recieved the results, but I hope to eventually go through with ulnar nerve transposition surgery. I would not have considered the sugery if I was older, but because I still have a life to live, and the fact that my condition directly affects my livelihood, I am hoping that suffering in the short-term will benefit me in the long-term.
I will be stopping physio in July due to financial reasons at the moment, but I plan to save up for post-surgical physio.
I look forward to getting to know everyone here, as well as sharing my own treatment as I progress through it!
