Hi all,

I found a pretty good video clip on CUTs and I thought I'd share it with you...

www.eorthopod.tv/episode_transcript.php?episode_id=36

It's a little lenghty, but informative. The only item I found odd in the video is that the doctor prefers the submuscular surgery. Where my doctor prefered the subcutaneous. Anyway, as with everything on this site - learn as much as you can, but make decesions based on your particular circumstances.

Cindy, thanks for that link. I found other video's of interest as well. Good site, Thanks!!!

I too had subcutaneous on mine. I lost all that progress about a month ago. I am 99% that it is from the neck (again!), but if not, a revision would be submuscular according to my surgeon. I have to go to a month of PT (rare for neck surgery peeps), and if it doesn't help, I guess another MRI and nerve conduction to see what the heck is going on.

BTW, if you aren't squeamish, register on "ORLive"... they have a surgery for Cubital. If I remember right, it was submuscular.

Hi Brenda,

I hear from a lot of folks on my youtube account and it seems that MOST doctors prefer
"submuscular surgery" over subcutaneous

I am told that these doctors even say that
" Nerve Release " or " decompression is a waste of time too

Every doctor claims to be the very BEST in their field, but from my experience as well as reading case studies,
One particular surgery has NOT been proven to be the most effective

That's why so many surgeons can NOT agree on which is the BEST method.

Of course, In my opinion, and from all that I have read, the type of surgery recommended depends 1st on the cause of the pinched nerve for that particular person.

But as I have said, and I do recommend that each one read as many case studies about cubital tunnel surgery as they can -
However, neither of the 3 types of surgery have been proven to be the most effective.

Howdy Phyllis!

I fully agree with your statement of "the type of surgery is based on how the nerve is pinched or how bad." A minor entrapment might do great with a decompression, yet the person that say...has a car accident and slams it badly, submuscular might be their only (best) option. As I mentioned for me, the subcutaneous was good for me and my situation. What is going on with it now, is probably due to me having another "adjacent level" going. It was too fast (as I was just sitting watching TV!!!) to be another entrapment at the elbow - plus now with my palm facing UP...I have no feeling halfway down my forearm and within about 3 inches of my armpit. Figures! <G>

I also agree with you in that doctors no matter how good, still have not (and probably never will) agreed on the "best" surgery for the Ulnar issues - and they seem to be increasing with frightening numbers!!!

Welcome back woman!!!
