Tingling never goes away? 2 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: 0
Is it possible that the tingling may never go away even after transposition? Any pain I had is gone but there is still some tingling in my hands. I have yet to hear the results of the cervical MRI so I'm still left wondering what to do. Has ayone else experienced this and was there any loss of hand use?

It can take up to a year or more to come to full "healing" potential. If you have cervical issues the tingling might be coming from there. Hopefully it is not, as the area that "feeds" the Unlar issues is the C7/T1, or if you see a Dermatome map (map of the nerves and what areas they service), it would be "nerve C8." That is the top of the Thoracic portion of your spine and the bottom of your cervical spine. Unless you have had trauma, it is not common to start with issues there - not to say that isn't the case.

Give it time. Find out what your MRI report and doctor's interpretation are, and if not the neck, then it may still be in the healing stages. I know it's hard to be patient, we have all had that - it's called normal.

I am hoping that is just still the healing stages. My main concern is that I sometimes feel as if my arms are feeling "weak" or almost like they want to go numb. I don't recall experiencing this before my transpositions. I had them done in Jan and Feb, submuscularly.

Do a search for a "Dermatome" map and see if the areas of your arm and hand match the nerve groups. It could be your neck after all this time, or it could be (if below the elbow only?) scar tissue or something else is causing your Cubital issues to return? The MRI will hopefully give you answers one way or another on the neck. Neck surgeries are not fun - been there twice - so far. Yeah, probably more in the future for me. The weakness is a bit of concern. Have you been able to talk with your doctor about these new symptoms? Keep us posted. Fingers crossed for good news!!!

The MRI turned out to be normal(Thank Goodness!). So, hopefully I am still in the healing stages. My PCP thinks my main problem is my job. I would love to quit but I do need the income and benefits so that is definitely not an option. Do I need to wait a whole year post op to gauge how well I am healed?

Normal? Most excellent!!! Yeah, you are still fairly early "new" from surgery. I would let my body heal. All research and too from my doctor, told me basically in enclosed nerves (such as in your arm) heal at about 1mm a month! Not fast at all.

You might see if you can get some physical therapy that can teach you exercises and such to help the process, and too with getting the nerve back as close to normal - your job might not be a factor later.

We all heal differently. I think my tingling lasted around 3 or 4 months - though MUCH less than pre-surgery. At around a year an a half (before my neck started its crap again), the only numb area I had left was the tip of my pinkie and the outer tip of my ring finger! Tingles by then were pretty much gone. I hope this helps. Again, congrats on the MRI!!!
