I have been taking gabapentin for the last 3 months for my symptoms and it does somewhat help, I think. It doesn't cause my tummmy to get upset like NSAIDS and narcotics do. My doctor also prescribes me hydro's for pain but I hardly ever have to take them. However, I guess gabapentin doesn't work for everyone. And it does make you tired at first but once you get used to it that goes away. And it is great for anxiety!! I get stressed easily and alot of the time I feel like a pressure cooker but since I have been on gabapentin, omigosh, I don't feel that way anymore! I absolutely love that extra side efect of gabapentin. Take care and god bless. I too am having surgery on the 18th.

Howdy Rebecca,
You are on a "cousin" of what I am taking for moderate and severe "breakthrough" pain from my cervical issues. I take Lyrica. I am still getting use to it, but it almost takes my nerve pain down to a 2! This from a variance of a scale of 6-9 when it zings me! I don't get anxious, so don't know if it would be doing anything but addressing my nerve pain issues. Chances are high of a "revision" surgery since my C6/7 fusion isn't taking. Glad to see you are having good results with Neurontin. Gabapentin is the generic of it. Most don't have good result from that one for some reason. Haven't taken it, so can't judge. Lots of folks have problems with Lyrica too! Glad to see your doing good!!!

REBECCA,
i took gabapentin for years and it didn't help me, so my doctor stopped me. to each him own. i'm glad it works for you.
I'll pray for you for your surgery and you period. I have my 1st post-op appt on 19th. I'll be glad to be able to get this ace wrap and gauze off my arm. they put no cast, just some gauze and an ace bandage but it isn't what I was told I'd have. I was told a cast, which I want to keep me from bending my elbow. this way is HARD and very painful. I had to go back to ER 2 days after my surgery for stronger pain meds. what the doctor gave me didn't work at all, so don't be afraid to ask for stronger meds. you'll need them. but it will be ok. nothing to be scared about. its a simple operation and you'll come out great.
Kathy
