Just been discharged from hospital following a 6-day stay. I have a staph based infection in my bursa, that spread to the joint and the ulna bone. Spread nicely dwon the arm to the hand, and started tracking back through the triceps. The resulting oedema from the infection squeezed the nerve again, and I'm now back to having no feeling at all in my fingers.

Was treated with morphine, clindamycin, gentamicin, flluxocillin and a benzyl based penicillin through IV for the duration. Luckily it managed to contain the infection, as the alternative would have been more surgery and soft tissue debridement; not something you'd wish on your worst enemy I can promise you. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debridement

OK, so infection totally cleared? Apparently not Now need to have the bursa totally removed, as they believe the infection remains dormant in the elbow. Surgery scheduled for 2 weeks time.

Surgeon does not want to do this arthoscopically, as she wants want a good look around apparently. A bursa is something that naturally regenerates... miraculous.

Had my appointment at national nerve centre; they are not prepared to resection the nerve as it will be of little gain apparently. So now 11 months post-op its wait and see time.

Sensation is back after the infection to a degree, but abduction and adduction are not.

4 weeks post excision surgery; removed bursa from elbow and roughed up olcranon process to prevent it regrowing. Feels kind of weird, but much better than previous pain.

Apparently the peripheral nerve injury centre in the UK no longeer perform any sort of tendon transfer, as they believe this surgery just relocates the atrophy issue to another part of the hand, with lower strength to the reinverated muscle.

My surgeon has told me I'll need tto wait until I'm 2 years post op now, as that will signify when axon regeneration will be viewed as completed...
