I had carpal tunnel release surgery on both hands about 3 years ago. I experienced immediate relief from my symptoms. I woke up from my surgery and could tell the difference. Most people I have spoken with experienced the same as I did.
Maybe the combination of the 2 surgeries at the same time irritated the median nerve?????? I would definitely keep trying to get answers from your Dr. Ask what is causing it to be numb instead of settling for "it will recover" I wish you the very best!

i had guyons canal and the deep motor branch of the ulnar nerve decompressed as well as carpal tunnel in that hand. the nerve is irritated i can tap the nerve and follow the tinels sign, it seems to be slowly improving....but very upsetting as it was not numb before.
i have heard the same as your story, relief right away. did you have open or endoscopic?
thanks

I had open carpal tunnel surgery. Apparently they said the structures of my hands were too small to do endo.

back 6 months ago, I had SubQ transposition, Guyons Canal decompressed, as well as the Carpel Tunnel released.
The Carpel Tunnel release was not due to any numbness or paresthesia or pain but the doc said since we were in there we'll take care of it since the NCV numbers are on the threshold.
The recovery, I believe, took way longer due to the CTS release. Saw other docs for second opinion and they said they would have waited until I had symptoms of the CTS before doing the surgery. The delay in my recovery, I believed, allowed for more atrophy in my hand. My palm would be swollen for months.
I had brief pins and needles in my median nerve fingers after the surgery but that got better after 3-4 weeks.

how are you doing now? how is your atropy in the hand?
i still have numbness in the carpal fingers, the pinky seems to be better after the guyon and deep motor branch release.....still have the atropy though.
