Integra LifeSciences Develops EndoRelease for Cubital Tunnel Syndrome

Integra LifeSciences has introduced a new EndoRelease system that provides a minimally invasive approach to the treatment of cubital tunnel syndrome.

Cubital tunnel syndrome (CuTS) is caused by entrapment of the ulnar nerve at the elbow and can result in symptoms such as pain, numbness and weakness in the ring and little fingers.  Treating CuTS usually requires invasive, open surgical procedures such as ulnar decompression, anterior transposition of the nerve, or medial epicondylectomy, which shaves down the bony point on the elbow.  Recovery often involves weeks of arm immobilization, followed by months of restricted movement and extensive therapy.

As an alternative, EndoRelease uses a series of innovative instruments that safely release the fascia (connecting soft tissue) surrounding the ulnar nerve.  Potential benefits of the EndoRelease System include a smaller incision, more efficient and reliable surgery, and faster patient recovery.

"The EndoRelease System offers a minimally invasive approach to the treatment of cubital tunnel syndrome through a unique system of instrumentation

" said Robert Paltridge, President of Integra Extremity Reconstruction.  "Integra offers one of the most comprehensive lines of nerve repair, protection, and decompression products available to address the needs of orthopedic and neurosurgeons."

Integra will initially market the EndoRelease system in the United States through its 80-person Extremity Reconstruction sales organization.  The system will also be featured at the 63rd annual American Society for Surgery of the Hand Meeting that started today in Chicago.

The lengthy and inconvenient recovery time is one of the main drawbacks of cubital tunnel surgery.  The new EndoRelease surgical procedure sounds like an important advancement in the treatment of cubital tunnel syndrome.
